Bridge Communities

On November 19th we brought our donation of $6,700.00 to Bridge Communities. We met at one of their resource centers where clients meet for counseling, job training, children's activities, etc. We met with Amy VanPolen and she spent quite a bit of time with us, explaining their mission and giving us examples of how they support the community and try to break the cycle of homelessness.

We all should be proud to be part of a group that supports organizations like this one! Thank you Jeanne Porter for this nomination.

Home2Home Project

On Friday, September 20th we presented our donation of $6600 to Home2Home Project. Our own Kathy Robbins volunteers for Home2Home and nominated this worthwhile charity. We toured the storage spaces that housed furniture and other necessities needed for families transitioning from homelessness to their own apartment. The stories Janelle Towne and her volunteers had for us were extraordinary. What started in November of 2016 with a simple idea has grown to serve 54 families thus far!! Needless to say, Janelle was extremely grateful!! We as 100WWC are making a difference!

Home2Home Project furnishes apartments for individuals or families who have just "graduated" from homelessness. Their new permanent housing comes with very little. Perhaps an air mattress. Home2Home furnishes the new home...furniture, kitchen ware (plates, cups, flatware, pots, etc), beds, towels, pictures on the wall....

In general, the statistics for returning to a shelter are pretty high....except for those helped by Home2Home. They have, to date, had only one person return to homelessness. This organization is making a huge impact for their clients!

Mothers Trust Foundation

On July 31st we brought our donation to a very grateful Mothers Trust Foundation of Lake County.

They serve children and families with children in difficult situations. At a meeting each week, requests are reviewed and money goes out. Of the children served, 27% live in households reporting $0 income. 14% are homeless, 19% are households affected by a disability. They provide hope for breaking the cycle of poverty. It was great to see the process firsthand.

Clearbrook

We made our $6,600.00 to Clearbrook. They were so very appreciative! We met wonderful people and learned about the comprehensive services they provide. The 2 areas where our funds will be utilized will help in ways that are far reaching!

In addition to our donation, the Riley Family matched our gift!!

Camp Kasem at DePaul University

Our fourth donation of 2018 went to Camp Kasem (DePaul University Chapter) on November 12th. They were very happy with our $6200 donation when we presented our checks to the student-run chapter!! We are proud to see what a difference we are making!!

Camp Kesem is a nationwide community, driven by passionate college student leaders, that supports children through and beyond their parent's cancer.

Naomi's House

Our August meeting brought us three nominations:

• Naomi's House - a residential program designed to offer hope, healing and a new beginning to women who have suffered commercial sexual exploitation.

Lisa Barry nominated Naomi’s House and it received the most votes. The house in DuPage County where we presented our checks on Friday, September 21st to a most thankful Executive Director, Simone Halpin. We learned about her program and how it helps women get the help and courage to take back their lives.

We are now 60 WOMEN STRONG!!

Spread the word about us and bring a friend along to our next meeting on October 9th at 6:00pm so that they can see what we are all about!

Misericordia - Heart of Mercy

Our second meeting this year had three nominations once again.  Our chosen charity was: 

Misericordia offers a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged. Misericordia offers a continuum of care to meet their diverse needs and aspires for each individual to live as independently as possible in the highest level of community integration feasible.  For more information on this worthy cause click the logo above or HERE

We presented our check for $5900.00 to a thankful group and given a grand tour of the Misericordia campus.  It showed the ever so many facets of this community.  So very much to offer their residents!

Young Hearts for Life

Our first meeting on April 17th brought a well-attended meeting and three presentations.  Linda Colander's nomination of Young Hearts for Life was our chosen charity!  

As Joseph C. Marek, MD expressed to us at our next meeting, “We firmly believe ECG screening of all physically active young persons, regardless of gender or sports affiliation is clinically justified, cost-effective and ethically compelling.  There are some things you cannot place an economic value on and a child’s life is one of them. Ecumenical Adult Care of Naperville

EAC was founded over 30 years ago by a multi-denominational group of local churches to provide safe, nurturing and life-enriching care for frail adults and respite for caregivers.  

We delivered our $5200 donation to Ecumenical Adult Care in Naperville!  It was wonderful to meet this thankful and dedicated group or employees and volunteers. Ecumenical Adult Care is a small operation who really appreciated our donation as the state of Illinois cannot pay for the Medicaid participants.  They are currently only available to those that pay and are hopeful that they can expand their services soon. We made a difference!!

Bear Necessities

In our August meeting, our members voted to donate to this worthwhile 501(C)3 Charity and on Thursday, September 21st our donation was delivered!  This great organization is dedicated to helping support those burdened with Pediatric Cancer by giving hope and support in so many ways.  We met with CEO and Founder, Kathleen Casey, who gave us insight into the work they do through "Bear Hugs" and research funding.  Our Debby Piraino brought this charity to our 100WWC chapter meeting with hopes of donating and we have now donated $5100 to research for pediatric cancer.  For more information about this worthy cause, click the links below.

Girls in the Game

"Girls in the Game" is a 501(c)3 charity dedicated to empowering inner-city girls aged 7 - 18 to become future leaders. We delivered our checks on August 8th to a grateful group of leaders!! These girls were so very, very appreciative of our donation.  It was amazing to hear about how "Girls in the Game" has made such a difference in the lives that otherwise might be very different. We are grateful to our own Peggy Kusinski Kinander for leading us to give to this outstanding cause that's made such a difference in the life of so many girls!

Clare Woods Academy

We had our first meeting of this year!  We now have 47 members and are growing!

Clare Woods Academy was chosen for our donation this quarter.

We dropped off our donation to Clare Woods Academy and toured the school. We also learned how our donation will be utilized. If "Milo" (whom we are funding for almost a year!) arrives at Clare Woods before our meeting, a representative may bring him so members can see him.  Our $4,800.00 is making an IMPACT!!

Jackson Chance Foundation

Our October meeting resulted in a collective vote for the Jackson Chance Foundation.  Carrie Meghie and her husband Terry, founded the organization after losing their 10-month old son, Jackson Chance Meghie.  The family spent 10 difficult months in the neonatal intensive care unit at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.  They also spent thousands of dollars in transportation and parking.  As a true gift to the babies at Lurie, they established this organization in their son's name.  The foundation raises funds so that families have parking and transportation costs covered during their PICU baby's stay.   

In a CNN interview Carrie says, "We spent quite a while really talking and thinking about what would have the most impact.  And it all came back to how happy Jackson was and why.  It was because we were there.  We just thought, 'How do we give that gift to other babies?' So we just decided that that was going to be our mission to make it so every baby could have somebody with them 24/7."

Easter Seals - DuPage and Fox Valley

We delivered our $3500 donation to Easter Seals of DuPage and Fox Valley!  They were very appreciative and gave us a tour of the facility. Thank you to our membership for once again making a difference!

RE:NEW PROJECT

Our first meeting on June 14th brought a donation of $3000 to RE:NEW Project in Glen Ellyn!! We hand-delivered our checks today to a very grateful Susan at RE:NEW.  This organization supports refugee women by teaching them sewing skills.  They now have a storefront that sells purses, bags, wallet and more! We certainly enjoyed shopping!  It is open to the public.
